  • A charter ordinance relating to pensions of the City of Kansas City, Kansas; amending Section 6 of Charter Ordinance No. 86 of the City of Kansas City, Kansas; and repealing original Section 6 of Charter Ordinance No. 86.

    BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE UNIFIED GOVERNMENT OF WYANDOTTE COUNTY/KANSAS CITY, KANSAS:

    Section 1. That Section 6 of Charter Ordinance No. 86 of the City of Kansas City, Kansas, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:

    Section 6. The governing body shall pass an ordinance to pay biweekly to retirees, widows, or widowers of eligible employees or retires eligible for pension. The amount of the pension shall be a sum equal to one-half of the retiree's or eligible employee's salary at the time of retirement multiplied by a number with a denominator of 20 and a numerator equal to the number of years the retiree or eligible employee served the city as an elected or appointive officer or employee other than as a member of the police department, fire department, water and light department or day laborer not paid on a monthly basis; provided that the numerator shall in no case be more than 20. Provided further, that pension benefits based upon salaries of $500.00 per month or more shall not be less than $325.00 per month.

    Section 2. That Section 6 of Charter Ordinance No. 86 of the City of Kansas City, Kansas, be and the same is hereby repealed.

    Section 3. This Charter Ordinance shall be published once a week for two consecutive weeks in the official newspaper of the Unified Government, and shall take effect 61 days after final publication unless a petition signed by a number of electors within the City of Kansas City, Kansas, equal to not less than ten percent of the number of electors who voted at the last preceding regular election shall be filed in the office of the Unified Government Clerk, demanding that this Charter Ordinance be submitted to a vote of the electors of the City of Kansas City, Kansas, in which event this Charter Ordinance shall take effect when approved by a majority of the electors of the City of Kansas City, Kansas voting at an election held for such purpose.

    PASSED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE UNIFIED GOVERNMENT OF WYANDOTTE COUNTY/KANSAS CITY, KANSAS, NOT LESS THAN TWO-THIRDS OF THE MEMBERS ELECT VOTING IN FAVOR THEREOF,
