  • CHARTER RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A TAX LEVY

    FOR PAYMENT OF SALARIES OF OFFICERS AND

    EMPLOYEES OF THE COUNTY AND OTHER, EXPENSES

    TUESDAY, MAY 7, 1985.

    WHEREAS, under the provisions of K.S.A. 1984 supp. 19-101a, counties are empowered to exercise certain powers of home rule; and

    WHEREAS, existing K.S.A. 28-716 provides that in counties having a population of not less than 185,000 nor more than 250,000, the board of county commissioners of said county, in addition to the rate of levy authorized by K.S.A. 79-1946 and 79-1947 and any amendments thereto, are authorized to levy an additional tax of not to exceed six mills to provide for salaries of officials and employees and other expenses as provided by law; and

    WHEREAS, the population of Wyandotte County has dropped to less than 185,000 inhabitants so that the provisions of K.S.A. 28-716 would not be applicable thereto; and

    WHEREAS, the county auditor has advised this board that in order to maintain the same standards of service which the county is rendering to the public that a levy will be required to maintain such standards of operation;

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:

    In order to provide the necessary revenues for maintaining existing standards of government, the board of county commissioners of Wyandotte County, Kansas hereby authorizes a levy annually of an additional tax on the assessed valuation of the county, in order to provide for salaries of officials and employees and other expenses; said levy shall be in addition to all other levies as provided by law; said levy shall be subject to existing legislative enactments prescribing limits of indebtedness as provided in subparagraph 4 of K.S.A. 19-101a.

    This resolution shall be published once each week for two consecutive weeks in the official county paper beginning on Wednesday, May 15, 1985.

    This is a Charter Resolution and shall take effect 61 days after final publication unless a sufficient petition for a referendum is filed and a referendum held on the resolution as provided by K.S.A. 19-101b, in which case the resolution shall become effective if approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon.
