§ 23-7. Same—Reappointment; filling of vacancies.

  • Whenever the term of office of a municipal judge shall expire, upon the affirmative recommendation of the mayor, the unified government board of commissioners may reappoint said judge to another four year term. If the unified government board of commissioners fails to reappoint said judge to another four-year term, or whenever a vacancy shall otherwise occur in the office of municipal judge, the unified government board of commissioners, by majority vote, shall fill such vacancy for the new term or for the unexpired term by appointing one of three persons possessing the qualifications for such office, who shall be nominated and whose names shall be submitted to the unified government board of commissioners. If a judicial nominating committee was convened within six months preceding the vacancy and submitted a list of three qualified persons for another vacancy in the municipal court, the unified government board of commissioners may select one of the individuals previously nominated for any additional vacancy. The person appointed or reappointed by the unified government board of commissioners shall take office for the term or part thereof, provided herein, and until reappointed or until a successor is appointed.
