§ 23-9. Council judicial nominating committee established.

  • Except as provided in section 23-7, upon the occurrence of a vacancy in any division of the municipal court, the mayor shall convene a judicial nominating committee from the members of the governing body appointed for the purpose of nominating and submitting to the entire unified government board of commissioners the names of three qualified persons as nominees for appointment to a position on the municipal court. Said judicial nominating committee shall consist of no less than three members of the unified government board of commissioners. The committee shall be temporary and shall cease to exist upon the formal appointment of a judge to fill the available position. The committee may consult with the administrative judge of the county district court and seek the advice and recommendations of interested persons within the community. The unified government board of commissioners may require a potential nominee to submit to a background investigation to determine the qualifications of the individual to hold the position.
