§ 28-46. Special auxiliary reserve officers.

  • (a)

    The chief of police may develop an auxiliary service program, a citizen volunteer program designed to increase citizen involvement with the department. This program shall be developed as a section of the police reserve unit. While reserved members serve voluntarily in law enforcement capacity, this section shall focus the efforts of citizen volunteers in areas of service normally performed by nonsworn departmental employees. It's purpose is to offer a citizen the opportunity to assist the department in vital services without having the perform the duties of an armed officer.

    (b)

    A special training program shall be development, as required, and as commensurate with the duties to be assigned and performed by this special volunteer group.

    (c)

    Qualifications for assignment to this special auxiliary program shall be set forth in special rules and regulations as shall be developed by the chief of police. Each member shall not be sworn or hold police commission. They shall, however, be furnished with special identification, commensurate with their assigned duties.

    (d)

    Each special auxiliary officer shall serve without compensation from the unified government.
