§ 2-2. Consolidation of county and city; creation of unified government; name.

  • The governmental and corporate functions now vested in the City of Kansas City, Kansas, a municipal corporation, and the governmental and corporate functions of the County of Wyandotte, Kansas, are hereby consolidated, such consolidation being pursuant to constitutional power granted the Kansas Legislature by article 2, section 17 of the Constitution of Kansas, as amended, and in conformity with K.S.A. 12-340 et seq. Said consolidation shall result in the creation and establishment of a new unified government to perform all of the governmental and corporate functions previously performed by the county and by the city, and shall be known as "The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas," (hereinafter "the unified government"). The unified government shall be vested with perpetual succession, be capable of suing and being sued, and be capable of purchasing, receiving and holding property, real and personal, and of selling, leasing or disposing of the real and personal property the same extent as other governmental entities.
