§ 2-58. Compensation, benefits and expenses of mayor.

  • (a)

    The annual compensation of the mayor shall be not less than $120,000.00. Said salary shall be subject to an annual cost of living increase as set forth on paragraph (b) and such salary shall go into effect the beginning of the term commencing in 2022. The mayor shall receive the same benefits including, but not limited to, medical and dental insurance and participation in the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System and such other benefits as may be provided to the mayor of Kansas City, Kansas, as of September 30, 1997. The mayor shall be provided a unified government car, fuel and maintenance for use during the term of office.

    (b)

    The mayor shall receive an annual cost of living increase based on the average of the Consumer Price Index and the average annual increase provided under collective bargaining agreements to bargaining units taken as a whole and their average and to which the unified government is a signatory party for the year prior to January 1 of each calendar year.

    (c)

    The salary of the mayor may be increased or reduced by legislative action of the commission; provided that the general election of the mayor follows the adoption of the ordinance by at least 120 days. No ordinance reducing the salary of the mayor shall become effective until the date of the commencement of the term of the mayor elected at the next general election. The mayor shall receive payment of actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of the duties of the office in such form and manner as the commission may authorize.
