§ 2-174. Fee to be collected from jail inmates in work-release programs.

  • (a)

    Pursuant to the authority of K.S.A. 19-1930(d), all inmates of the jail, who participate in a work release program, for which the inmate receives compensation, shall be required to pay to the unified government an amount not exceeding $10.00 per day to defray costs of the maintenance of said inmate; provided that the sheriff of the county be authorized to reduce or waive the repayment of such amount in instances, in which payment would create undue hardship for an inmate.

    (b)

    The inmate shall pay any amount charged pursuant to this section, in cash or by money order, to the unified government treasurer, who shall deposit the entire amount into the unified government treasury, credit it to the general fund, and provide the inmate with a written receipt for such payment.

    (c)

    If the unified government is otherwise entitled to reimbursement or compensation for the maintenance of an inmate, who is required to pay an amount pursuant to the section, said amount shall be deducted from the amount of the other reimbursement or compensation, to which the unified government is entitled.
