§ 2-451. Council established; purpose; membership.

  • (a)

    The mayor's council against domestic violence is hereby established.

    (b)

    Notwithstanding the alternative procedure for nomination and appointment set out in section 2-381 et seq., the mayor shall appoint all members, including a chairperson, to the mayor's council against domestic violence. As nearly as possible, the councilmembers shall represent the following agencies or sectors:

    (1)

    Battered women's shelters;

    (2)

    Law enforcement agencies;

    (3)

    Judges;

    (4)

    Prosecutors;

    (5)

    The county legal aid society;

    (6)

    Batterers intervention programs;

    (7)

    Agencies;

    (8)

    Schools;

    (9)

    Clergy; and

    (10)

    Any other segment of the community concerned with domestic violence.

    (c)

    The purpose of the mayor's council against domestic violence shall be to evaluate our community's response to family violence, to promote public education, and to advocate policy changes where necessary in order to diminish the effects of domestic violence on families and on the entire community.

    (d)

    The term of each member of the council shall be two years.

    (e)

    The council shall adhere to the Open Meetings Act (K.S.A. 75-4327 et seq.), and the chairperson or his designee shall prepare an agenda for all meetings and cause minutes of all meetings to be made and maintained and filed with the unified government clerk.
