§ 31-1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Garbage means wastes from the preparation, cooking and consumption of food; market refuse; and waste from the handling, storage and sale of produce.

    Premises means land, buildings or other structures, vehicles, watercraft, or parts thereof, upon or in which garbage or trash is stored.

    Trash means any of the following:

    (1)

    Trash, combustible, means paper, cartons, boxes, barrels, wood and excelsior, yard trimmings, wood furniture, and bedding.

    (2)

    Trash, noncombustible, means metals, tin cans, metal furniture, dirt, small quantities of rock, brick and pieces of concrete; glass, crockery, other mineral refuse.

    (3)

    Ashes means residue from fires used for cooking and for heating buildings.

    (4)

    Street rubbish means street sweepings, dirt, leaves, catchbasin dirt, and contents of litter receptacles.

    Trash does not include earth and wastes from building operations or solid wastes resulting from industrial processes and manufacturing operations, such as food processing wastes, boiler house cinders, lumber, scraps, sawdust, and shavings, wastes from the preparation, cooking and consumption of food, market refuse, waste from the handling, storage and sale of produce, and dead animals.
