§ 35-697. Operation of electric-assisted scooters.

  • (a)

    Electric-assisted scooters are to be operated in bike lanes and bike paths where available. Electric-assisted scooters are to offer the right of way to bicycles in bike lanes and on bike paths.

    (b)

    Electric-assisted scooters shall not be operated on any interstate highway, federal highway or state highway.

    (c)

    Electric-assisted scooters shall not be operated on any public highway or street within the corporate limits of the city with a speed limit in excess of 35 miles per hour unless the electric-assisted scooter is operated within a bike lane or bike path.

    (d)

    Electric-assisted scooters shall not be operated on any public sidewalk.

    (e)

    Electric-assisted scooters shall not be operated at a speed of more than 15 miles per hour.

    (f)

    No person under the age of 18 shall operate or ride upon an electric-assisted scooter on any public street, road or highway.

    (g)

    The use of protective bicycle helmets is highly encouraged while operating electric-assisted scooters.
