§ 35-879. Vehicles weighing over 12,000 pounds.

  • (a)

    Except as provided in subsections (b) and (c) of this section, no person shall operate any vehicle with a registered gross weight classification in excess of "12M" or 12,000 pounds on any street designated by the traffic engineer and posted with signs indicating that trucks are prohibited.

    (b)

    As used in this section, "registered gross weight" is that weight for which a vehicle should be registered in the jurisdiction in which it is licensed.

    (c)

    Recreational vehicles, buses and other vehicles used primarily for transportation of passengers are exempt from the prohibition of this section.

    (d)

    All vehicles owned by the unified government and by the board of public utilities and all trash trucks with enclosed packer bodies are exempt from the prohibition of this section.

    (e)

    Vehicles carrying goods to or from a location on a street designated by the traffic engineer under subsection (a) of this section and vehicles used in repair or construction work on or abutting a street designated by the traffic engineer under subsection (a) of this section, including utility vehicles, are permitted to enter the street at the point nearest the location, to deliver or receive the goods or do the work, and to exit at the point nearest the location.

    (f)

    Posted load limit signs on streets, bridges, culverts or other locations take precedent over any provisions of this section.
