§ 35-892. Load restrictions upon vehicles using certain highways, streets, bridges, or viaducts.

  • (a)

    Whenever load restrictions upon vehicles using certain highways, streets, bridges, or viaducts are lawfully posted giving notice of such load restrictions, no person shall operate any vehicle with a gross weight in excess of the amounts specified at any time upon any of the highways, streets, bridges, or viaducts or parts so posted, unless the person has obtained a special permit for excess weight from the traffic engineer and the highway, street, bridge, or a viaduct is specified in the permit.

    (b)

    When weight limit restrictions are posted by means of a sign with silhouettes of three vehicles in accordance with section 2B-41 and shown in illustration R12-5 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways, as adopted by the state secretary of transportation for purposes of this section, the silhouettes shall represent vehicles designated type A (the topmost silhouette), type B (the middle silhouette, and type C (the bottom silhouette) and defined as follows:

    (1)

    Type A: a truck with two or more axles.

    (2)

    Type B: a truck tractor and single semitrailer combination with three or more total axles.

    (3)

    Type C: either a truck and trailer combination vehicle or a truck tractor and semitrailer and trailer combination vehicle with four or more total axles.
