§ 2-142. Salaries of the sheriff, register of deed, elections commissioner and their deputy positions.

  • (a)

    Elected officials and election commissioner.

    (1)

    The sheriff, register of deeds and the election commissioner shall be paid pursuant to and consistent with the compensation and classification plan ("plan" heretofore adopted and approved by the board of commissioners of the unified government) a salary equal to the amount set forth on range 17, step 1 of said plan which equals $54,152.00 per year, paid in periodic amounts the same as all other governmental employees are paid. The sheriff, register of deeds and election commissioner shall be eligible to receive an annual cost of living increase based upon the average of the Consumer Price Index and the average annual increase provided under collective bargaining agreements to the bargaining units taken, as a whole and then averaged to which the unified government is a signatory party, for the year prior to January 1 of each calendar year subsequent to the year 2000.

    (2)

    The salary provided in subsection (a)(1) of this section shall be retroactive to October 1, 1999, and shall thereafter be compounded with an additional three percent cost of living increase retroactive from the date of Resolution No. R-83-00 [enacted August 3, 2000] to January 1, 2000.

    (b)

    Appointed deputy officials.

    (1)

    The register of deeds deputy and the election commissioner's deputy shall receive a salary equal to the salary provided under the plan of the unified government at range 14. This salary shall be retroactive to October 1, 1999.

    (2)

    The undersheriff shall receive a salary equal to the salary provided under the plan of the unified government at range 18. This salary shall be retroactive to July 1, 2002.

    (3)

    Annual increases to the salary shall be based upon performance measures established pursuant to the plan with their evaluation performed by the supervising elected or appointed official.

    (4)

    The undersheriff, register of deeds deputy and election commissioner deputy shall be treated in the same manner as the unified government employees under the plan.
