§ 36-159. Register and report of property purchased or received.
(a)
Every secondhand dealer, junk dealer, buyer of old iron, secondhand plumbing goods and secondhand plumbing material, pipes, faucets, other secondhand metals, secondhand telephone receivers, transmitters, instruments, wires, cable, railroad iron, rails, telegraph instruments, transmitters, receivers, wires, automobile tires, automobile equipment, or any of such articles bought when new from any other than a regular dealer, buyer of other secondhand articles or goods, and buyer of secondhand or old gold or silver or diamonds or of other secondhand jewelry shall keep at such person's place of business a register in which such person shall enter, at the time of every purchase or receipt of any such article, in writing, a minute description of all property taken, purchased or received in the conduct of such person's business, including any number that may be in or upon any article, together with the time and correct name and correct age and correct place of residence, including street and number if within the city, of the person selling or leaving such property and the amount paid for such property. Such person shall make such entries within one hour after the receipt or purchase of such property. Every entry shall be made in ink and shall not in any manner be erased, obliterated or defaced.
(b)
It shall be the further duty of such dealer or buyer to make out and deliver to the chief of police every day before the hour of 12:00 p.m. a legible and correct copy from such register of property received or purchased during the preceding day, together with the time when received or purchased and a description of the person from whom the same was purchased or received.
(c)
The register required by this section shall at all times be open for the inspection by any law enforcement officer, the county attorney or the unified government chief counsel.
