§ 31-7. Collection generally; schedule; containers.

  • (a)

    Household garbage shall be collected as provided in the garbage and trash collection contract entered into by the city. Garbage not defined in section 31-1 shall not be so collected. Household garbage shall be collected by the city collector with such frequency as is prescribed in such contract.

    (b)

    Commercial, business and industrial garbage shall be collected by a private collector according to the schedule fixed by the health officer.

    (c)

    The city trash collector shall collect all trash from all single-family dwellings and from all multifamily dwellings with four or fewer units.

    (d)

    A schedule for the collection of trash and garbage shall be published in the official paper of the unified government and shall be on file in the office of the unified government clerk. Garbage and trash shall be set out at the curb of dwellings for collection. The garbage and trash shall be in containers of 50 gallons or less, the contents of which do not weigh in excess of 75 pounds. The term "container" shall include plastic or other type trash bags. The garbage shall be placed in sacks, paper, or other receptacles and placed in such containers or trash bags. Garbage shall not be left loose or liquid and may be placed in and mixed with other trash in such containers.

    (e)

    It shall be unlawful for a person, owner, owner's agent or occupant to set out or allow to be set out any garbage or trash for collection before 4:00 p.m. of the day prior to the day of collection or allow to remain at or near the curb after 7:00 a.m. on the day after the day scheduled for collection.
